The Patronato of the Alhambra and Generalife is an independent body attached to the Ministry for Culture of the Autonomous Government of Andalusia, which is responsible for the protection, administration and conservation of the monumental site of the same name. This encompasses all the buildings, woods, gardens, crops and land, as well as the formulation and development of plans to be followed in order to conduct conservation, restoration, excavation and research work. By and large, it is responsible for any work that relates to, affects and is undertaken within the boundaries of the site and surrounding area.
The institution has celebrated the twenty-fifth anniversary of its establishment. Over this period, it has fulfilled the need to protect and conserve this rich and extraordinary heritage. What’s more, from a modern conception, it has made the institution the guardian of cultural heritage that transcends the historic and artistic legacy extending it to the preservation of the surroundings and the landscape corresponding to its urban nature within historic artistic sites in Granada.
The Patronato develops exhibition projects within or beyond the confines of the monumental site, many of which are the product of thorough internal research complemented by highly interesting external contributions. It entails cultural amenities directed towards the scientific community and the general public that fosters enriching debate, and thereby complements the range of monumental and tourist attractions on offer.
